Oil Spill Causes Temporary Closure of Subway Portion

Service on TTC Line 2 has resumed after a section of the subway was temporarily closed due to an oil spill on the tracks. The closure affected stations between Kipling and Jane.

The spill was reported at around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 28th, 2023. TTC crews were dispatched to the scene to clean up the spill and assess the damage.

The closure caused significant delays for commuters, with trains operating on a reduced schedule. Some passengers were forced to disembark trains and take shuttle buses to their destinations.

Cause of Oil Spill

The cause of the oil spill is still under investigation, but officials believe it may have been caused by a leaking train.

TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said that crews are working to determine the source of the leak and make repairs.

Service Resumes

Service on Line 2 resumed at around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28th, 2023. However, some residual delays are still possible.
