Cornhuskers Fall in Straight Sets in Dallas

No. 2 Nebraska lost its first match to an unranked opponent since 2017, falling in straight sets to SMU on Saturday in Dallas.

The Mustangs won 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 in front of a home crowd at Moody Coliseum.

It was just the second time in coach John Cook's 23 seasons at Nebraska that the Huskers have lost to an unranked opponent in the regular season.

Nebraska's Struggles

The Huskers had a tough time getting their offense going against SMU.

They hit just .154 as a team and had 20 attack errors.

Senior outside hitter Madi Kubik led Nebraska with 11 kills, but she also had seven errors.

SMU's Success

SMU, meanwhile, was efficient on offense, hitting .294 as a team.

The Mustangs were led by outside hitter Morgan Hebert, who had 14 kills.

Setter Averi Salvador also had a strong match for SMU, dishing out 38 assists.

Looking Ahead

The loss drops Nebraska to 8-1 on the season.

The Huskers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host No. 10 Minnesota.

SMU improves to 8-3 with the win.

The Mustangs will next play on Wednesday when they host Houston Baptist.
