Ex-Post Office Boss Denies Knowledge of Account Alterations

Former CEO Fails to Recall Warnings

BBC News reports that the former CEO of the Post Office has denied being informed that branch managers' accounts could be altered.

The revelation comes as part of an ongoing inquiry into the Post Office Horizon IT scandal, which saw hundreds of postmasters wrongly convicted of false accounting and some jailed.

The former CEO, Paula Vennells, told the inquiry that she did not remember being told of the accounting error by her subordinates.

However, the inquiry has heard evidence from other Post Office executives who claim that Vennells was aware of the problem as far back as 2012.

The inquiry continues, with the aim of determining whether the Post Office was culpable in the wrongful convictions of dozens of postmasters.
